Label TextDale Chihuly (American, born 1941) Confetti Persian Set Blown glass, tooled; assembled, 1992 Gift of Carolyn K. and Richard F. Barry, III This is the first contemporary glass object acquired by the Barrys, purchased during a visit to the artist’s studio in Seattle. Chihuly, who studied glassblowing in 1966 with Harvey Littleton at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, had moved back to his native North West in 1983. The Persian Series emerged during his experimentation at the Pilchuck Glass School with artists Martin Blank and Robbie Miller, expanding on Chihuly’s Seaform Series with hundreds of small, more geometric forms. Over time, the complex Persian sets increased in scale, but still coproduced with smaller, more intimate versions like this.
