Lino Tagliapietra is the most esteemed Venetian glass Maestro (master) living today. Trained by the famed artisan and designer Archimede Seguso at a young age, his unsurpassed skill has set the benchmark for American studio glass artists. In 1979, he accepted an invitation by Benjamin Moore to teach at the fledgling Pilchuck Glass School near Seattle and he continues to be a regular presence in the US ever since. Bilbao is named after the Spanish city that opened the celebrated Guggenheim Museum in 1997, designed by architect Frank Gehry. It was made by Tagliapietra in Seattle and cold-worked by American artist Eamon O’Hara.
