Label TextNancy Callan (American, born 1964) Jubilee Top Blown glass, 2015 Gift of Carolyn K. and Richard F. Barry, III I believe play is essential, not just for the artist, but for everyone. ~Nancy Callan Influenced by childhood, toys, and comic books, Callan fuses playfulness with fluency in her chosen medium, producing colorful and exceptionally well-crafted works. She strives to preserve the same playfulness and enthusiasm she felt the first time she worked with glass, a freshness retained and informed by her high-level training and talents. While she maintains her role as a key member of Italian Maestro Lino Tagliapietra’s glassblowing team, she has developed her own, distinct artistic voice in blown, sculptural glass. Like other women represented in this exhibition, she enjoys working collaboratively, in and outside of the glass world; she shares a studio with her partner, the painter Julia Ricketts, whose works inspire Callan’s color choices.
