Label TextSonja Blomdahl (American, born 1952) Chestnut/Yellow with Indigo Top Hand-blown glass in the incalmo technique, ground and polished, about 2014 Gift of Carolyn K. and Richard F. Barry III “The relationship between form, color, proportion, and process still intrigues me." ~Sonja Blomdahl, n.d. Incalmo is an Italian glass blowing technique, in which two or three bubbles of the same size, but usually of contrasting colors, are joined during the blowing process. Blomdahl has made this exacting technique her primary artistic focus, exploring color in relationship to simple, unadorned vessel forms. She often inserts a clear band between contrasting colors, which serves as an optic lens to view the impact of light in their interiors.
