Jiyong Lee received a Bachelor of Fine Art, Hong-ik University, Korea in 1997 and a Master of Fine Art, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York USA in 2001. Following his graduation, he served as Visiting Assistant Professor at this university until 2005, when he accepted a position at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois where he is now an Associate professor the undergoing tenure process. As an instructor, he also has taught at the Pilchuck Glass School, the Studio of the Corning Museum of Glass, Penland School of Crafts, the Pittsburgh Glass Center, the Domaine de Boisbuchet in France, Canberra Glassworks in Australia, Fire Station Artists’ Studios in Dublin, Ireland, and various other art institutions and universities nationally and internationally. Lee has served as a member of the board of directors for the Glass Art Society from 2009 until 2015. He has won a number of honors, including the Emerging Artist Award from the Glass Art Society, several scholarships including the Saxe Award from the Pilchuck Glass School and the Studio of the Corning Museum of Glass. His work has been exhibited and collected nationally and internationally (Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, New York, USA; Museum of Glass, Tacoma, Washington, USA; Cedarhurst Center for the Arts, Mount Vernon, Illinois, USA; Fort Wayne Museum, Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA; Samsung Electronics, Seoul, Korea
Yunnan Hanringxuan Culture and Art Museum, Yunnan Province, China). Recent exhibition highlights include KOREA NOW exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, an acquisition by the Corning Museum of Glass and a solo exhibitions at the Duane Reed Gallery in St. Louis, MO.
