Label TextWilliam Morris (American, born 1957) Rhyton Blown glass, tooled, applied, acid-etched, 1997 Gift of Carolyn K. and Richard F. Barry III As in his Anasazi Raven and Pot, displayed nearby, Morris explores in this work themes of archaeology and prehistory. An ancient type of drinking vessel known as a rhyton provides the model for this zoomorphic form. It is embellished with incised images and symbols inspired by petroglyphic art found in caves and on natural rock formations.
