Label TextBenjamin Edols (Australian, b. 1967) Kathy Elliott (Australian, b. 1964) Untitled Blown translucent green and red glass, hot-formed and wheel-cut, 2002 Gift of The Leah and Richard Waitzer Foundation. 2022.38 An inherent desire to balance elegant forms with well-calibrated surface decorations reflects in the designs of Idols and Elliot. While earlier works hint at the couple’s sustained esteem for Italian mid-20th century glass, more recently their inspirations are drawn closer to home, from them subtropical vegetation surrounding their studio near Sidney. The shapes of large unfurling leaves and shoots are interpreted in luminous, restrained sculptural forms of timeless elegance.
