Young Man in Scottish Costume
Marked: “KPM” blue and red logo marks, about 1840-1850
Gift of Carolyn K. and Richard F. Barry III, 2017.190
Founded in 1763 by emperor Frederick the Great, the royal porcelain manufactury produced dolls with exquisite heads since 1840. While many examples were made at the time, they are a great rarity today. This young man wears a traditional Scottish costume, made fashionable in Germany with the marriage of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert of Saxe Coburg.
