Barry III, 2017.164 This character doll demonstrates the high quality of design and execution maintained at the company of Bruno Schmidt. The dolls’ heads were made at the porcelain factory Baehr & Pröschild in Ohrdruf, a firm Schmidt purchased in 1918. Her bisque head has finely modeled features, with a protruding upper lip typical for this model. The model became known to American collectors as “Wendy,” after appearing in the book by Madalaine Selfridge entitled Wendy and Friends in 1969.
